Waitlist Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know I am on the waitlist?

2,200 interest applications will be selected in a computerized random selection process (lottery) and then will be placed on the Housing Choice Voucher Waitlist by preference. Scottsdale will notify successful applicants by written notification through the U.S. Postal Service to the mailing address provided on the interest application. Applicants not selected may reapply when the Scottsdale waiting list reopens.

You also have the option of checking the status of your application by registering at our Applicant Portal.

If you are able to register, you will have the option of viewing the status of your application and updating your information such as your address.

If you are unable to register, your interest application was NOT selected for the lottery

Please note: The lottery results will not be available in Applicant Portal before June 30, 2022.

How do I stay on the waitlist?

Once selected by lottery and placed on the Scottsdale Housing Choice Voucher waitlist, applicants must notify the Agency of any address changes. Finally, while on the waitlist, applicants must respond to all correspondence received from the Agency or the application will be removed from the waiting list.

Waitlist Information

Scottsdale Housing Agency is no longer providing positions or “numbers” of individuals on the waitlist. Scottsdale Housing Agency will only confirm if you are on or not on the waitlist, and confirm addresses and/or preferences.

Any changes of address MUST be submitted in writing in order to be updated. Requests may be submitted via email to Melissa McNeal at [email protected] or by mail or dropped off at Scottsdale Community Assistance Office, 6535 East Osborn Road, Building 8, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. Requests made over the phone will not be accepted.

Applicants still do not have access to the online portal. Scottsdale Housing Agency is still working to develop this. In the interim, all changes should be submitted via fax or email.

About the Program

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This program offers rental assistance which is based upon the household’s income. Families must be income eligible based on the HCV Program Income Guidelines, which are below. The program provides affordable and safe housing opportunities for lower-income families, senior citizens and persons with disabilities. The Scottsdale Housing Agency (SHA) subsidizes the rent of eligible families by paying a rental subsidy directly to the landlord each month under a Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) Contract.

The Scottsdale Housing Authority has partnered with AffordableHousing.com , which provides an enhanced program to list rental properties online. Listings are available to potential Housing Choice Voucher tenants seeking apartment units, duplexes, single-family homes or townhomes in the private market. Eligibility Guidelines:

The HCV Program is limited to extremely-low and very-low income individuals and families. The SHA will determine eligibility based on the following criteria:

1. Annual gross income of the household is at or below income guidelines
2. U.S citizenship or eligible immigration status
3. Documentation of social security numbers for all members of the household
4. Criminal background screening

If you meet these initial requirements, the SHA will then process your application for assistance and determine if you meet any of our preferences:

1. living/working in Scottsdale
2. elderly/disabled
3. homelessness

The table below provides the maximum rent limit per bedroom size. These limits include the rent, tax and utilities for each unit.

Current Waitlist Applicant Information

The SHA maintains a single waitlist for the HCV Program. The waitlist will be updated annually to ensure that all applicants and applicant information is current.

Check Status or update information

Please be aware that your waitlist position number can change on a daily basis. When the SHA has reached your position number, we will send you an appointment letter for an Income Interview. This interview will officially determine your eligibility for the HCV Program.

Until you are pulled from the waitlist for an interview, it is very important you report any changes in your household income, family composition and contact information (i.e. address, mailing address and phone number.) Please ensure that mailing address provided is valid and accurate as SHA will send appointment letters or notices confirming you are still interested in program. If your current information is not provided to the SHA, your name could be removed from the waitlist.

Reasonable Accommodations

The definition of Reasonable Accommodation is a change, exception, or adjustment to a rule, policy, practice, or service to allow a person with disabilities to fully access the PHA's program or services. As long as the accommodation does not create an "undue financial and administrative burden" for the PHA or result in a "fundamental alteration" of the program or service offered, the PHA will approve the request.
